Ruth F. Namie, PhD

Work Trauma Expert, Personal Coach, Author

It was Dr. Namie's personal experience that led to the founding of the nonprofit education, research and reform organization, the Campaign Against Workplace Bullying (bullybusters.org). Since 1998 she has coached over 4,000 victims of workplace bullying. That work, coupled with her 14 years in the clinical field treating chemically dependent individuals and families and preparation with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, makes Dr. Namie an international expert in Work Trauma the effects of repeated, unremitting bullying and humiliation on individuals. She co-authored two books. She conducts public education and training for the certification of fellow mental health professionals.

Prior to her graduate education, Ruth was an executive with Sheraton Hotels in Hawaii where she served as corporate Training Director and Executive Committee member. Her business career began in retail management. She launched The Work Doctor, a woman-owned, family-run consulting firm in 1985. The Work Doctor is the only U.S. consulting firm to specialize in anti-bullying systems for employers. Her particular role in the Blueprint system is to oversee the clinically-oriented training modules and team interventions.

Gary and Ruth Namie are co-authors of BullyProof Yourself At Work (DoubleDoc Press, 1998-99), The Bully At Work (Sourcebooks, 2000) and the forthcoming Blueprint for a Bully-Free Workplace (2001). Gary writes and edits this internet site. Ruth and Gary designed the comprehensive Blueprint TM system to create hostility-free, bullying-free workplaces.
